Chinese HS30 double action review

HS 30 Double Action Review

The HS30 is a double action internal mix gravity feed airbrush made in China.
It is sold under a variety of brands with the same packaging.

Price: Very cheap, around $30-$40

Initial look and feel: Looks similar to Sparmax and older Iwata. Looks good initially. Has a fair weight to it and is quite well balanced. Trigger is a bit loose. Includes a nozzle spanner (which I had to use) a pipette and a push on hose adapter attached. I used  Liquitex ink for the test spray, which was very good with smooth spraying and tight line work. Good range of spray patterns from fine line to full even coverage.
There are however a few issues, see below for details.

Closer inspection: Main body had some sort of residue on it. The colour cup lid does not stay on at all. Inconsistent plating on the lid and in the colour cup, plating is missing in areas. The aforementioned  loose trigger has uneven legs. The black coating shows wear right out of the box. The lever guide is the old loose style with rough unfinished workmanship. Now the main thing and the reason I had to use the nozzle spanner. The nozzle sheared straight off on first changing, for the review I had to use a Sparmax DH-103 nozzle.I think this happens a lot as I know someone that bought one of the pack of six assorted models and four of them snapped off.

Conclusion: If you pick up a spare nozzle and don't use the lid, then for the price it is a good buy as it does work well.
